Woman's Paddling Series
This three part series is designed to give the skills and experience you need to go out and paddle in out
local waters. It starts with the basics – an introduction to the kayak, how it fits and the equipment required – then you will progress to learn the essential rescue skills and techniques –then the final progression will be to venture out on a three hour tour.
Session One: An
introduction to the kayak, required equipment and the basic paddle strokes. This three-hour session contains a one-hour
mini lesson on shore, followed by two hours of paddling the calm waters in the Newcastle
Channel. You will learn the basics
and have an opportunity to practise them as you enjoy a relaxing paddle.
Session Two: Rescue
Skills. Develop the skills, knowledge
and confidence required for safe kayaking.
In this session of the series we will instruct you on how to do a wet exit, a self-rescue
and an assisted rescue. This class
is held in the safe (and warm) waters of the Beban Park Pool.
All participants who successfully complete this session will receive a Certificate
– which is required when renting kayaks.
Session Three:
With all you new skills you will be ready to navigate around Newcastle Island. We will venture out and explore the
beautiful shorelines of Newcastle where you are sure to see numerous species of
seabirds, lots of seals and other marine life.
