Kayak: 2015 Hobie Outback
About Anthony Reid:
I moved to Vancouver Island with my family at the age of 5. Until that point, I’d never really touched a fishing rod as we were from the city. My dad bought a boat and took up fishing as his new favorite pastime and loved nothing more than sharing this time with my sister and I and spent every spare minute he had doing so. We spent countless hours on the salt trolling for salmon and jigging for rock cod and halibut. It didn’t take long for me to realize how much I love spending my spare time doing the same thing. I still currently live in Nanaimo with my wife and three daughters. Fishing to my wife is more about relaxing with a good book on the water and my girls love fishing when they aren’t too busy naming my lures. Either way, it’s one thing we all love to do together.
Up until roughly 4 years ago, I had never fished from a kayak. A good friend of mine had asked if I wanted to try it out one day so I took his spare SOT (sit on top) yak out and changed everything for me. I was so ‘hooked’ on it I sold my aluminum boat and have never looked back. I love to fish anywhere, anyway I can but fishing from one of my kayaks is hands down my favorite way to wet a line. Nothing beats the look on peoples’ faces when you’re getting dragged around by prize fish and landing it. Especially from a kayak of all things. I try not to sound too biased about it but hey, don’t knock it til you try it!
I’ve been on the Alberni Outpost Pro Kayak Fishing Team for a couple of years now and I am having way too much sharing my pics and stories with you. On top of being a part of the AO team, I’m a team member/blogger for bcfishn.com and a pro-staff member for Scotty Paddlesports. Kayak fishing is the fastest growing interest in the sport and is starting to grow immensely in the Pacific Northwest. I couldn’t be more excited to help spread the word! You will see either me or one of my team mates somewhere at some point so don’t be afraid to come say hi! I’m excited to see how many people are interested in joining the world of kayak fishing and feel free to ask me anything you’d like to know.
See you on the water 🙂
